ASSISTED LIVING CHURCHES

Below are the current statistics for Assisted Living or Residential Care facilities that are located in the United States (sorry we do not have the data for Canada at this time).

  • Number of residential care communities: 28,900

  • Proportion of residential care communities with for-profit ownership: 81.0%

  • Number of licensed beds: 996,100

  • Number of residents: 811,500

As a movement, we do NOT believe that when a person gets older, they should no longer be spiritually cared for. Our church has ALWAYS believed the words of Jesus in Matthew 25:34-40:

34 “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’

37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’

40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’

There are over 800,000 people who live in the United States who cannot easily attend a church service because they live in an Assisted Living facility. We are grateful for both visionary ordained and lay pastors who have embraced the vision to take the church to these precious people! While we agree these are “non-traditional” churches in their operation, when they are missionally-led, they satisfy the 4 requirements we have to be considered “a church.” 1) worship, 2) community, 3) accountability and 4) mission. Our prayer is that God will raise up 10,000 committed lay and clergy leaders who will multiply the church’s mission in Assisted Living Centers all across the USA/Canada Region. Many of these can become PACs (Parent-Affiliated Churches) connected to a local church. Our movement is committed to spiritually caring for people of ALL ages, from birth to heaven. Both evangelism and disciple-making can happen in Assisted Living churches.
