Conducting A Pre-Assessment

The purpose of the Pre-Assessment is not to replace a formal Assessment for a Church Planting Leader.  It is simply to assist the Superintendent, District Leadership Team and Local Church Sponsor in the planter candidate pre-assessment process.

Candidate Preparation Steps:

1. Have the candidate complete and return the Self-Assessment Exercise.  This will give you a picture of what the candidate thinks about themselves.

2. Have 4-5 other pastors and/or lay people who know them also complete the Self-Assessment Exercise.  This will give you a multiple "snapshot" of them.

3. Have their current pastor (or if they are currently pastoring, their Superintendent or Mission Area Leader) and 3-4 other church leaders (lay or clergy) who know them well, complete the Candidate Reference Form.  This will give you a picture of what those closest to them think of their church leadership capability.  The Candidate Reference Form should include the name and phone number of the person who has completed the form on the candidate.

Interviewer Preparation Steps:

1. One of the MultiplyNaz benefits of church and district partnership is providing your Leadership Team with the use of Assessment Interview Questions. These questions offer team members an outline to follow in any pre-assessment interview you choose to do.  If the candidate is married, we highly encourage you to interview both them and their spouse.

2. Use the 13 Characteristics – Church Planting Leader Profile Rating Sheet for your final scoring.  On a scale of 1-5, if a candidate scores consistently lower than a 3 average, we suggest you use caution in placing them as a Church Planting Leader.
